HOME EOCNOMICS PROGRAM

Our Family and Consumer Science Training, also known as Home Economics, will help individuals and families learn some basic concepts in household budgeting to live within their means.

 

The Industrial & Apparel Sewing classes will teach how to take care of clothing and household textiles such as bedding and curtains. From patching a hole to doing laundry, participants will learn how to preserve clothing so it can be worn as long a possible; saving money on clothing needs. The curriculum also focuses on personal care and work/life balance training.

 

 

 

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Primary Sewing

Participants will focus on basic sewing skills: machine use, cutting, terminology, and sewing machine control and accurate stitching. 

 

Alterations & Repairs

The class instructions are design to teach students how to produce, alter or repair garments and household items such as a bed comforter or curtain seam. Students will learn to develop skills of handling, observing and evaluating textiles and clothing for quality, durability and reusability.

 

Intermediate Sewing

Students will gain a better understanding of the Primary skills as well as learn how to, purchase notions and read a pattern. Participants will learn more about fabrics,  step-by-step pattern layout and cutting.

 

A Safe and Healthy Environment

Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy

environment.

 

Personal Budgeting

They will learn how to make a household budget to live within their means.

 

Resource & Time Management

Participants learn how to balance a career and family life while minimizing stress. Students will learn about tools for managing their tasks effectively to meet more of their goals. They will learn how to set goals, identify your personal time-eaters and find tasks they can harvest time from.
